A POLICEMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
A white south Caroline officer was charged with murder after shooting an unarmed African America man 8 times on the back. The charge came after a video footage surfaced which showed the police officer shooting the unarmed man while he was running away from him.
According to reports, the shooting began as a simple traffic stop over a fault brake in the car that the victim was driving.
It is being reported that Michael Slager, the police officer involved in the shooting, had informed the police that Walter Scott, the an armed black American, grabbed his gun and as a result he was forced to shoot him fearing that he might end up killing. However the video which was obtained by the police pointed a very different story.
In the video, the 50 year old father of four, Scott, was seen running away from the police when he was shot 8 times and as a result falling on the ground. The video also shows Slager walking slowly towards Scott then ordering him to put his hands behind his back, when Scott doesn’t move Slager pulls his arms back and cuffs his hands then he walks briskly back to where he fired the shots, picks up an object and returns to Scott before dropping the object by Scott’s feet.
Attorney L. Chris Stewart who came to North Charleston a day after the shooting to represent the family said that the video forced authorities to act quickly and decisively and called the person who took the video a hero.
The family of Scott plan to file a civil war suit and also the justice department is looking into the case. Slager is now on bars and he is likely to face death raw if convicted.
