Different Types of Juvenile Crimes

Of late there has been a rise in Juvenile Crimes. Crimes committed by people below 18 years of age are considered as Juvenile. Most of the people today are not innocent. Every teenager makes mistakes and bad judgements such as missing curfews, partying with friends etc. These are all the crimes that are negligible but some adolescents when mingled with bad company or due to their circumstance make bad decision and commit crimes which may ruin their entire life.
According to a research, it is revealed that most of the juvenile offenders are males and are aged between 15 and 17 years. Not only are the juveniles committing crimes but they are also victims of crime. Some of the most notable juvenile crimes are
•    Vandalism
•    Trespassing
•    Burglary
•    Larceny
•    Shoplifting
•    Driving Under Influence
•    Drug Offenses
•    Underage drinking
Meaning of different types of Juvenile Crimes
Status offenses: Crimes committed by teenagers due to their age are regarded as Status Offenses. Violations that come under this category are
•    Truancy: Staying away from school
•    Running Away from home
•    Underage Drinking
Among most of the crimes committed by minors, more number of girls are arrested to status offenses and boys are arrested for underage drinking.
Property Crimes: Crimes like Burglary, theft, arson and larceny fall under this category. Boys make up to 60% of the total arrests among juveniles committing these crimes.
Violent Crimes: Crimes like battery, assault, murder and rape are under this category. Boys make up to 80% of the arrests for these kinds of crimes.
Even though the punishment for these crimes is not as harsh as the punishment for crimes committed by an adult, juveniles are still liable to punishment such as probation or out of home residential placement.
