HIV Activists in Kenya Want to Destroy Data

Human right activities, in Kenya, are on the court, in order to make Kenya’s government destroy the list of HIV positive children. According to them, it is forbidden to have the list of people who are living with HIV. The president of Kenya ordered the data collection at the beginning of the year, in order to improve health care. These children had to list their names, guardians, relatives and schools. All who can be affected by their condition.
The petition was filed by: Children of God Relief Institute (Nyumbani), Kenya Legal and two more parties. The second hearing will be in a 15 days.
There are more than 1.6 million people who live with HIV in Kenya. 190.000 of them are children, under 14 years. 58.000 people die from this disease, every year. Also, there are many orphans due to this disease. In fact, there are 1.1 million of them. This information is published by the UN. The activities are in a fear that this data can cause certain problems in the battle versus stigmatization. Allan Maleche, Kelin's executive director, said that this case may cause a lot of trouble in the lives of the people who suffer from HIV.
Kenya is a place on the planet where many people with the HIV virus live. It is very dangerous as well. The effort to collect all data on children with the HIV virus caused a lot of social and privacy problems. In order to see how the case will develop, we must wait. The second hearing will be on 10 July.
